Why publish the Community Eye Health Journal?
The Community Eye Health Journal was established in 1988. The Journal is distributed free of charge, four times a year, to 24,000 readers in over 150 low-income countries. It contains articles on planning and management, appropriate technology, communication and advocacy, and new developments in community eye care. It is practical, hands-on, and easy to understand.
The Journal is published for the thousands of eye health professionals who work in remote and under-resourced areas, have little or no access to professional development and are unable to benefit from the experiences of others. For the majority of readers, the journal is the only source of up-to-date eye health information. Over two-thirds of readers say the journal has improved their day-to-day practice. Readers use the journal to train others and educate their community and professionals feel more motivated to reach out to low-income communities.
