Community Eye Health Journal Privacy Policy and Data Protection Notice

The Community Eye Health Journal was started 30 years ago, in 1988. New issues appear every quarter and are distributed to individuals and organisations who have subscribed by sending us their address details. We are committed to continuing to provide you with this valuable resource and to protect your privacy.

The Community Eye Health Journal is based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and we are governed by LSHTM’s privacy policy.

This policy applies to the Community Eye Health Journal as follows.

Individuals or organisations subscribe to the Community Eye Health Journal by joining our online mailing list or by giving us their postal address and contact details on paper or via email.

We keep your personal data in a secure database. We use your data to provide you with quarterly issues of the Community Eye Health Journal, on paper or online.

We may contact you from time to time with an invitation to participate in a paper-based, email or phone-based readership survey. This is so we can improve the Community Eye Health Journal and demonstrate the impact of our work to the charitable organisations who support us. Participation is voluntary and does not affect your subscription in any way. Your responses are anonymised (so that you can’t be identified), analysed, summarised and shared with the charitable organisations who fund the Journal and at academic conferences. This helps us to demonstrate the impact of what we do, and to motivate organisations to support the work of the Community Eye Health Journal. We will only contact you following a survey if you have asked us to do so; for example, to update your subscription details if you have moved or changed your email address.

In every issue of the Community Eye Health Journal, in the News and Notices section, we encourage subscribers to get in touch if your details have changed or if you no longer wish to receive the Community Eye Health Journal. It is in our interests to do so as we depend on charitable organisations and donations to support our work; our budget is limited and we want to ensure that copies go only to subscribers who want or need the information we provide.

To change your subscription details, or cancel your subscription, please write to admin@cehjournal.org and we will respond within a reasonable time.

In order to send you paper copies of the Community Eye Health Journal, your name and address details are securely shared with our distributors, CMS. They keep your information secure and their privacy policy is available here. The personal data we supply them is only ever used for the purpose of mailing paper copies of the Community Eye Health Journal. CMS is registered under the data protection act, is government licensed and also ISO 27001 compliant. Your data is stored securely.

In order to send you the quarterly email alert when a new issue is published, your email address is securely shared with Mailchimp. Their privacy policy is available here.

None of your personal information is captured while you use our website. We keep a record of IP addresses only. This is to record traffic flow, check which countries are accessing our website, and record changes over time. This information is used to demonstrate the impact of our work to the charitable organisations who support us financially.

Please email admin@cehjournal.org to let us know if you would like to change or delete your subscription, or if you wish to make a financial contribution to our work.

With kind regards,
Elmien Wolvaardt Ellison
